Jerusalem Rally for Protest Detainees Ends in Attacks on Soldiers and Police

On the evening of July 30, a convoy of dozens of vehicles traveled from Beit Shemesh to Jerusalem to welcome 63 individuals recently released after being detained during riots outside Supreme Court Justice Solberg's home. Upon arrival in Jerusalem, the convoy participants, dressed in Sabbath attire and wearing shtreimels, were greeted by crowds dancing and celebrating on Malchei Yisrael Street before proceeding to Kikar HaShabbat square.

However, the festive reception escalated into violence when three soldiers from the Netzah Yehuda Battalion, passing nearby, were attacked by some participants who followed them, shouted at them, and threw objects. The soldiers managed to leave unharmed. Police officers who arrived to protect the soldiers were also assaulted, with footage showing objects thrown at them amid chants of "Nazis out."

Avigdor Lieberman, chairman of the Yisrael Beiteinu party, condemned the attacks and criticized the government, referring to it as the "October massacre government" and accusing it of failing to denounce the violence. He warned that on October 27, his party would remove the current government and deal firmly with such rioters.

The incident highlights ongoing tensions surrounding protests and law enforcement in Jerusalem, particularly linked to disturbances near the homes of judicial figures. The released detainees were involved in recent unrest outside Justice Solberg's residence, and their public reception sparked clashes with security forces.
