Tel Aviv Clubs Advance to Next European Qualifying Rounds After Key Wins

Maccabi Tel Aviv secured their progression to the third qualifying round of the UEFA Europa League by defeating Sheriff Tiraspol 1-0 in the second leg on Thursday in Batumi. After a commanding 5-0 victory in the first leg, Maccabi only needed one goal, scored by Roy Revivo in the 29th minute, to complete the aggregate win. They will face the winner of the Qarabag versus CSKA Sofia tie in the next round. Despite dominating possession, Maccabi posed fewer threats on goal compared to the first match but maintained a clean sheet for the second consecutive game.

Meanwhile, Hapoel Tel Aviv caused a major upset by drawing 2-2 in their second leg against a top Bulgarian team, following a significant win in the first leg. This result allowed Hapoel to advance to the third qualifying round of the UEFA Conference League, marking their first European appearance in 12 years. They will next face the winner between Slovakian club Žilina and Polish side Katowice.

Both Tel Aviv clubs have now moved forward in their respective European competitions, continuing strong starts to their seasons with Maccabi achieving their third consecutive win and Hapoel making a surprising breakthrough.
