Report: UAE Agreed to Release Billions to Iran in De-escalation Deal
Reuters reported on Saturday that the United Arab Emirates agreed, according to four sources, to free up billions of dollars for Iran as part of understandings aimed at easing tensions between the two countries. The reported framework is worth between $10 billion and $20 billion, and about $3 billion has already been transferred.
The arrangement is said to include a resumption of economic ties between Tehran and Abu Dhabi, along with an Iranian pledge to stop attacks on Emirati territory. One person involved in the details said the move is part of a broader effort to stabilize relations in the Gulf and reduce regional security friction.
The UAE Foreign Ministry denied the report, calling it “false and baseless.” In an official statement, it said that “no frozen Iranian funds have been released, transferred or eased through the United Arab Emirates.”
The sources also said the step fits into wider talks between Iran and the United States over the future of sanctions on Tehran and a broader regional settlement. Iran has also reportedly approached other Gulf states in an effort to reach similar understandings, but the details have not yet received full official confirmation from all sides.
