Tel Aviv Hosts Global Tefillin Day as Students Donate Prize to Special Needs Charity

In Tel Aviv, the Global Tefillin Day was marked with numerous stations set up across the city, drawing large crowds to participate in the mitzvah of laying tefillin and communal morning prayers. The event, organized by Rabbi Alon Cohen, aimed to foster unity and connection through this shared religious act, welcoming people from all backgrounds. Rabbi Cohen described the atmosphere as joyful and inclusive, highlighting the participation of 75-year-old Menti Brands, who laid tefillin for the first time.

Separately, Alon Ivgi, a paramedic and air conditioning technician, took compassionate action after responding to a resuscitation call in Beit Shemesh. Noticing the extreme heat and lack of air conditioning in the home of a grieving family, Ivgi installed two air conditioners at his own expense to ease their suffering during shiva. He emphasized that small acts of kindness can make a significant difference and called on others to show care and help when possible.

In another act of generosity, students from the Bnei Akiva Yeshiva "Tikvat Yaakov" who won first place in the national tournament for Bnei Akiva yeshivas and ulpanot, chose to donate their 2,200 shekel prize to the "Et La'asot" association, which supports children with special needs and their families. The students regularly volunteer with the organization and felt this was the right way to share their success. The association and yeshiva praised the students for their empathy and commitment to giving back, underscoring the importance of values alongside achievement.
