Israel Approves Expansion of Route 60 to Four Lanes Between British Police Junction and Tapuach

The Israeli government has officially approved a historic infrastructure project to double the capacity of a key section of Route 60 in the West Bank. The expansion will widen the road from the British Police Junction to the Tapuach Junction, increasing it to four lanes with two lanes in each direction. This development aims to improve transportation between Jerusalem and the Samaria region, enhancing the quality of life for thousands of residents.

Finance and Defense Minister Bezalel Smotrich emphasized the strategic importance of the project, stating it supports the strengthening and development of settlements to prevent the establishment of a terrorist state in the heart of the country. He also thanked the Civil Administration and the Settlement Division for their dedicated work in advancing the statutory procedures.

Israel Gantz, head of the Binyamin Regional Council and chairman of the Yesha Council, hailed the approval as a major milestone for Binyamin and all of Israel. He noted that the project is part of broader efforts to upgrade all main roads in Binyamin and prepare infrastructure for the expected population growth in the West Bank, aiming to accommodate up to one million residents in the coming years. The expansion reflects ongoing efforts to bring transportation standards in Binyamin in line with those across Israel.
