Israeli Women Report Severe Side Effects After Using Unregulated 'Magic Honey' Weight Loss Product
Following a Mako Health exposé, nine Israeli women have come forward describing serious adverse reactions after using "Magic Honey," a weight loss product marketed on social media. Users reported symptoms including chest pain, breathing difficulties, rapid heartbeat, dizziness, and severe weakness. The product, manufactured in Turkey and sold unofficially via Instagram, TikTok, and WhatsApp, is promoted as a natural appetite suppressant but lacks official import approval or pharmaceutical distribution in Israel.
Shiral, 25, from the Krayot, described intense chest pain and breathlessness after taking the product on an empty stomach, leading her to seek emergency care. Despite medical tests showing no heart or lung damage, she continues to experience lingering chest discomfort. Similarly, Agam, 22, a reserve soldier from northern Israel, suffered weakness and rapid pulse requiring hospital visits. Ayala, 29, from Bnei Brak, who had undergone gastric sleeve surgery, experienced dizziness and a racing heart, fearing she would die. Another user, a 17-year-old identified as Lital, reported mood swings and severe dizziness.
The Instagram pages promoting "Magic Honey" have been removed following the reports. One influencer who marketed the product announced a temporary halt to sales, advising followers to stop use if feeling unwell and to verify Health Ministry approval. The Ministry of Health confirmed it is investigating the product after receiving complaints and warned the public against unregulated supplements that may contain undisclosed harmful substances, urging purchases only from licensed pharmacies and official channels.
Medical professionals involved emphasized the importance of thorough evaluation to exclude serious conditions and highlighted the risks of unverified supplements. The Health Ministry's ongoing probe aims to prevent further harm and protect consumers from potentially dangerous products sold outside legal frameworks.
