Dr. Aliza Bloch Urges Religious Zionism to Lead National Unity Amid Israel’s Critical Moment

Dr. Aliza Bloch, in a special interview with Channel 7, explained her decision to return to public life amid what she calls one of the most critical periods in Israel's history. She emphasized that the key question is not political alliances but whether Israel can navigate this sensitive time without fracturing internally. Bloch called for a renewed focus on "statehood," "responsibility," and "partnership," urging the Religious Zionist community to spearhead efforts to heal societal divisions.

Reflecting on the lessons from the events of October 7 and Tisha B'Av, Bloch highlighted that Hamas attackers did not discriminate between Israelis based on location, religion, or political affiliation, underscoring the need for Israelis to see themselves as one people. She stressed the historical responsibility of the Religious Zionist sector to act as a bridge within Israeli society, moving beyond factionalism to foster national cohesion.

Bloch criticized the current political climate, describing it as a survival struggle between blocs that hinders meaningful reforms in education, integration of Haredim into military service, and social healing. She called for removing the issue of Haredi conscription from political battles and engaging directly with the public to support those seeking integration. She also warned against neglecting broad consensus issues like education, healthcare, and northern communities such as Kiryat Shmona, which she visits frequently and feels are overlooked.

Highlighting the urgency of investing in the next generation, Bloch pointed out that Israel currently benefits from educational achievements of three decades ago but risks falling behind without renewed focus. She also criticized the media and public discourse for deepening polarization, where even facts are contested, and urged recognition of partial truths on all sides.

Concluding with a message of hope, Bloch invoked the biblical figure Miriam the Prophetess, who maintained faith and song amid uncertainty. She stressed that Israelis cannot wait for others to act, reminding that there is no alternative nation or people, and Israel’s future depends on collective effort.
