Former Judge Moshe Drori Emerges as Leading Candidate for Police Investigations Chief

Former District Court Judge Moshe Drori, known for his close ties to the government, is a leading candidate for the position of head of the Police Investigations Department (Mahash) under a new legal framework set to take effect in 2027. The appointment is being considered by Justice Minister Yariv Levin. Under the new law, the role of the Mahash chief will include resolving jurisdictional disputes over case transfers between Mahash and other investigative bodies, as well as deciding which investigative or prosecutorial authority will handle cases where there is uncertainty or disagreement.
