AI Workforce Orchestrators Emerge as Key Managers in Hybrid Human-AI Workplaces
For decades, organizational management focused on human labor allocation, but the rise of AI introduces a new question: which tasks should be performed by humans and which by AI agents? This shift is transforming workplaces worldwide, including in Israel, where AI agents now independently manage entire business processes such as procurement negotiations, rather than just assisting with basic tasks.
A new report by workforce giant Adecco and consulting firm Altermind highlights that the main challenge for companies is not adopting AI technology itself, but redesigning work processes to integrate humans, AI agents, automation systems, and eventually robots. This has led to the emergence of a new managerial discipline called Hybrid Workforce Orchestration, focused on optimizing task distribution and ensuring efficient, safe, and profitable operations.
The role of Workforce Orchestrator, though still evolving, involves redesigning workflows and managing the interface between human employees and AI systems. Similar roles like AI Transformation Lead and AI Operations Manager currently exist, with salaries in the US ranging from $130,000 to over $290,000 annually, and in Israel monthly salaries estimated between 35,000 and 65,000 shekels depending on seniority and company size.
Michael Gabay, CEO of Gain, describes how AI agents in companies like Bazan and Tempo now handle complex negotiations with suppliers, while human employees focus on oversight and final decisions. Despite rapid AI advances, many organizations have yet to fundamentally change their work processes, with less than 20% in the US and Europe fully integrating AI into core operations.
The report concludes that AI is reshaping jobs faster than it eliminates them, shifting human roles toward decision-making, supervision, creativity, and judgment. Organizational leaders, including CHROs, COOs, and CEOs, must adapt to managing hybrid teams. The Workforce Orchestrator role may not become a formal title but represents a critical strategic responsibility in deciding which tasks are assigned to humans versus AI, marking one of the most significant organizational changes of the coming decade.
