Israeli National Team Coaches Seek Player Release Ahead of Yom Kippur

Ahead of the upcoming international window, Israeli national team head coach Ran Ben Shimon and assistant Gal Cohen traveled to the United States to monitor the performance of key forwards Tei Baribo, Dor Turgeman, and Idan Toklomati. Their visit also aims to negotiate the early release of these players from their club commitments to ensure their availability for the national team during Yom Kippur, a significant religious observance.

The coaching duo arranged meetings with the management teams of New England Revolution, Charlotte FC, and D.C. United, clubs that employ the three forwards. These discussions were facilitated by the Israel Football Association chairman Shino Zohar and his deputy Moran Meiri, who have personal connections with the clubs' Jewish owners and understand the importance of the timing around Yom Kippur.

Ben Shimon specifically requested that Toklomati and Turgeman be released a day before Yom Kippur to allow them to join the national team delegation in Austria. He also sought to have Baribo and Toklomati excused from matches against Orlando City and Inter Miami, respectively, which are scheduled close to the holiday. While the chances of securing these releases are uncertain, the Israel Football Association decided to pursue the matter given the players' critical roles as the team's leading forwards.
