Pro-Iranian Militias Threaten Syria Over Potential Action Against Hezbollah

Pro-Iranian militias in Iraq have issued warnings to Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa, stating they will not hesitate to cross from Iraq into Syria if Damascus takes military action against Hezbollah in Lebanon. Although al-Sharaa publicly denies any intention to intervene militarily in Lebanon and has rejected a U.S. proposal from President Donald Trump to act against Hezbollah, a Syrian security source confirmed to Kan 11 that operational plans against Hezbollah are being prepared behind the scenes if necessary.

The pro-Iranian axis remains skeptical of al-Sharaa's public statements. An Iraqi political source indicated that these militias intend to support Hezbollah should a conflict arise. In an interview with Al Jazeera, al-Sharaa expressed concern over the deployment of Iraqi militias, which are not under Baghdad's control, along the Syrian border.

Amid rising tensions, Iran recently attacked the al-Tanf base in the Syrian desert near the Iraqi border, citing the presence of U.S. forces, although American troops had already withdrawn from the site. This escalation underscores the fragile security situation along the Syria-Iraq border and the broader regional contest involving Iran, Syria, Hezbollah, and the United States.
