Israeli Musician Eyal Botner to Receive Honorary Alumni Award from Rimon School of Music

Eyal Botner, a prominent Israeli musician, composer, and songwriter, will be honored with the Honorary Alumni Award by the Rimon School of Music tomorrow during the graduation ceremony for the class of 2026. The award recognizes Botner as a graduate who has become one of the most influential and beloved creators of his generation. The committee highlighted his inspiring musical journey, which began during his studies at Rimon and grew to place him at the center of Israel's music scene.

Throughout his career, Botner has established himself as a key figure in Israeli music, credited with numerous songs that have become integral to the Israeli cultural soundtrack. The committee emphasized his extensive body of work and collaborations with leading Israeli artists, noting his significant contribution to Israeli culture and music and his influence on multiple generations of creators and listeners.

Born and raised in Kibbutz Ein Carmel, Botner, 48, initially gained recognition as Israel's most sought-after guitarist, performing alongside artists such as Ivri Lider, Rita, and Ninet Tayeb. His breakthrough came in 2007 with the album "Shavim," a successful joint project with Ran Danker. Botner also pioneered a unique musical model with his band "Eyal Botner and the New Kids," where he serves as composer, songwriter, and guitarist, while young talented singers handle vocals.

In March, amid the tensions of the war with Iran, Botner and his band filmed a music video for the song "Bo LaOr" in an underground shelter at Tel Aviv's Bima Square. Among his many hits is "Michtav LeAchi," performed by Kobi Aflalo, a song originally written for Botner's brother. Aflalo has spoken about his deep connection to Botner's work and the evolving Israeli music scene.

The Rimon School of Music honors Botner for his unique path, impressive achievements, and inspiration to the next generation of musicians. The award ceremony will take place as part of the 2026 graduates' celebrations.
