Israeli Singer Ishay Ribo and Rabbi Ymima Mizrahi Receive Honorary Degrees at Haifa College Ceremony
Israeli singer and songwriter Ishay Ribo, alongside Rabbi Ymima Mizrahi, was awarded an honorary degree at a graduation ceremony held at the Shanan Academic College of Education in Haifa. The event marked the college's 75th anniversary and included the conferral of bachelor's and master's degrees to hundreds of students. The ceremony was attended by alumni, parents, faculty, and administrative staff.
In his acceptance speech, Ribo reflected on his immigration to Israel at age nine, recalling his early struggles with Hebrew and his deep connection to the land as the heart of the Jewish people. He expressed gratitude for his family, supporters, and the opportunity to create music that bridges distances and unites people through shared heritage and longing.
Rabbi Mizrahi also addressed the graduates, emphasizing the importance of justice, kindness, and humility in education. She praised teachers as the "priests of this generation," highlighting their dedication despite challenges such as criticism and inadequate compensation. She encouraged them to continue their mission with courage and faith.
College President Professor Avi Levi praised the graduates as "morentors," educators who go beyond teaching to nurture and support their students. He underscored the irreplaceable role of Torah values in education, contrasting them with technological advances like artificial intelligence.
The ceremony featured musical performances by Dor Alexander and the Shanan band, including a medley of Ishay Ribo's songs. The college also bid farewell to Dr. Eran Loizon, former dean of advanced studies and head of the master's program, and Dr. Esti Tov Lee. Other dignitaries present included Education Ministry Deputy Director Eti Sassi, Shanan Academic College trustees, and academic council members.
