Pro-Palestinian Students Protest Iron Dome Developer at Tel Aviv University Lecture

Dr. Danny Gold, head of the Israeli Ministry of Defense's Research and Development Directorate and key developer of the Iron Dome missile defense system, faced protests during a lecture at Tel Aviv University. The event, held as part of a PhD degree ceremony, was disrupted when a group of students identifying as Palestinians stood up, shouted "shame" at Gold, and left the hall in protest. During his lecture, Gold highlighted Israel's defense achievements, including technological advancements used in the "Roar of the Lion" military operation and Israeli strikes in Tehran.

Following the incident, Tel Aviv University President Professor Ariel Porat expressed regret over inviting Gold, apologizing to faculty members who were upset by the event. Additionally, dozens of senior faculty signed a petition accusing the university of "militarization," criticizing the growing ties between academia and the Israeli defense establishment. The university rejected these claims, calling them unfounded and warning they could damage its reputation and encourage boycotts.

The university clarified that while Gold is a respected figure with two doctorates from Tel Aviv University, the decision to invite him to speak on military topics during a ceremony involving families and soldiers was a mistake due to a lack of proper coordination. The university expressed regret for the distress caused but emphasized that the fault did not lie with Gold himself.
