Classic Beef Meatballs in Tomato Sauce Recipe Marks Return to Meat After Tisha B'Av
Following the conclusion of Tisha B'Av, many Israelis are returning to meat-based meals. A traditional recipe for beef meatballs in a rich tomato sauce offers a simple, flavorful way to resume regular dining routines. The dish is juicy, packed with taste, and suitable for the whole family.
The meatballs are made from 500 grams of ground beef mixed with finely chopped onion, an egg, breadcrumbs, crushed garlic, chopped parsley, and spices including salt, black pepper, and sweet paprika. They are lightly fried for 2-3 minutes on each side before being set aside.
For the sauce, olive oil is heated to sauté a large chopped onion and crushed garlic, followed by tomato paste, crushed tomatoes, water, and seasonings such as sweet paprika, cumin (optional), sugar, salt, and pepper. The meatballs are then simmered in this sauce for 35-40 minutes on low heat until the flavors meld and the sauce thickens. The dish is finished with a sprinkle of fresh parsley before serving.
This recipe provides a comforting and traditional way to enjoy meat dishes again after the nine days of mourning, bringing familiar home flavors back to the table.
