Iraqi Politician Advocates Peace and Normalization with Israel Amidst Regional Pressure

Mythaal al-Alusi, a senior Iraqi politician who supports normalization with Israel, spoke in an interview with Roee Kays on Kan News about his ongoing efforts. He emphasized his commitment to peace, stating, "I supported peace and will continue to support peace. Iraq and other countries in the region have no choice but peace to develop." Alusi is among a group of Iraqi politicians against whom arrest warrants were issued for expressing support for normalization with Israel. He criticized these warrants as unrepresentative of the Iraqi constitution and indicative of the lack of freedom in Iraq, attributing the control over political, security, judicial, and economic decisions to Iranian Revolutionary Guards' dominance.

Currently residing in Germany, al-Alusi said he is not afraid to return to Iraq, asserting that the warrants are intended solely to intimidate free citizens and suppress dissent, enabling Iran to maintain full control over freedom of expression in Iraq. Meanwhile, Kan 11 reported that Gulf states have joined U.S. President Donald Trump in pressuring Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaydi to disarm pro-Iranian militias. A political source in Iraq revealed that Gulf countries are urging Baghdad to address these militias following their involvement in numerous attacks against Gulf states in recent months. During a recent visit to Baghdad, Jassim Al-Budaiwi, Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council, presented Iraqi officials with data on the militias' activities against the Gulf countries.
