Tehran Displays Giant Banner Supporting Khalil al-Hayya as New Hamas Leader

Following the appointment of Khalil al-Hayya as the new leader of Hamas, a large banner was unveiled in Tehran's central Palestine Square. The banner features images of al-Hayya alongside former Hamas leaders Yahya Sinwar and Ismail Haniyeh, both of whom were killed in the recent conflict. The backdrop of the banner includes the Al-Aqsa Mosque and the city of Jerusalem.

The banner bears inscriptions in Hebrew and Arabic. The Hebrew text reads, "From the generation of Sinwar, the new leader on the ground," while the Arabic message states, "Khalil al-Hayya, the nightmare of the occupiers." This public display in Tehran underscores Iran's continued open support for Hamas, the militant group based in Gaza, and signals an attempt to project leadership continuity following the elimination of Yahya Sinwar.

The event comes shortly after the official announcement of al-Hayya succeeding Sinwar as Hamas's leader. The Iranian regime's backing of Hamas is highlighted by this prominent public message in the Iranian capital, emphasizing the alliance between Tehran and the Gaza-based organization.
