US-Iran Tensions Rise as Trump Plans Strike on Strategic Site, Risking Regional Escalation

Political analyst Tamir Morag warned that recent US military moves in the Middle East could trigger a new regional conflict. Despite President Donald Trump's continued hope to pressure Iran into a deal through a combination of moderate military pressure and intense economic sanctions, Morag believes the situation on the ground is escalating toward violence. The US has recently deployed strategic bombers and dozens of fighter jets to the region, with around 50,000 troops already stationed there.

Morag identified the strategic Iranian site known as "Mount Machoosh" as a potential flashpoint. Trump has indicated plans to strike this location soon, which could provoke a significant Iranian response. Morag cautioned that if both sides follow through on their threats, the result could be a widespread conflagration. Iran would likely retaliate by targeting critical oil and water infrastructure across the Persian Gulf and Gulf states, including Saudi Arabia.

Regarding Israel, Morag noted that Iran currently refrains from direct attacks on Israeli territory, focusing instead on launching missiles at Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Bahrain. He explained that Iran is deterred by Israel's readiness to respond decisively to any aggression. When asked about the likelihood of renewed conflict, Morag estimated a 50 percent chance within the next two weeks.

This analysis highlights the fragile balance in the region amid heightened US-Iran tensions and the potential for rapid escalation following a US strike on a key Iranian site. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and other regional leaders remain closely monitoring the developments.
