Hapoel Hadera's Placement in Liga Alef South Frozen Amid Legal Dispute

Hapoel Hadera's placement in the 2026/27 Liga Alef South division has been temporarily frozen following a legal intervention. The Tel Aviv District Court issued an interim injunction delaying the club's inclusion in the southern division and the publication of the final match schedule. This injunction came after Hadera filed a lawsuit against the Israel Football Association (IFA), challenging the decision to assign them to the southern district despite their request to compete in the northern division.

The dispute began when the IFA's League and Cup Committee decided on June 28 that Hadera, relegated from the National League, would play in Liga Alef South. Hadera appealed to the IFA's Supreme Court, which rejected their request to move to the northern division. In their lawsuit, Hadera alleges significant procedural flaws, including the Supreme Court considering additional evidence after the hearing without allowing the club to respond, and the failure to share documents submitted by M.S. Tira, another club, with Hadera.

Hadera also claims that the decision violated the association's regulations by creating a mandatory placement rule not found in the rules and prioritizing older clubs over a relegated team. They further accuse the IFA of selective enforcement, noting that M.S. Tira's case involved broader considerations such as seniority and financial impact, whereas Hadera's case was judged mainly on geographic criteria. The club points out that it is located north of several teams assigned to Liga Alef North, including Tira, Baka al-Gharbiyye, and Jatt.

The court ordered the IFA and other respondents to submit their response by July 28 at noon, with a hearing scheduled for July 30 at 9:30 a.m. Until a final decision is made, Hadera's placement in the southern division remains on hold. The ruling could affect the division of teams between the northern and southern Liga Alef districts and the preparation of the season schedule, with the new season set to begin on September 4.
