Gush Katif Rabbi Predicts Israel Will Return to Gaza After Iron Swords War

Rabbi Yigal Kaminetsky, known as the rabbi of Gush Katif, expressed strong confidence that Israel will return to the Gaza Strip, the land from which it was expelled 21 years ago. Speaking at the Gush Katif Heritage Center conference, he said this belief has accompanied him since the disengagement, citing the biblical promise that every place where the Israelites set foot will belong to them. He emphasized that the area, once thriving with Zionism, Torah, and labor, will be reclaimed.

Rabbi Kaminetsky highlighted the recent "Iron Swords" war as a turning point that changed public consciousness, stating that Gaza has historically been the most challenging area for Israel and that victory there will shift national awareness. Addressing concerns about returning to the difficult security situation that characterized Gush Katif, he dismissed fears of renewed hardship, envisioning a future without enemies or terror, filled instead with beauty, nature, and faith.

On the topic of national unity, the rabbi rejected the perception of deep divisions within Israeli society, asserting that the people are united and loving, as reflected in the army. He criticized the media for fostering discord and called for a cleaner public discourse ahead of upcoming elections, urging less slander and harm. Rabbi Kaminetsky concluded by noting a spiritual awakening in Israeli society since the war, with a growing desire for strong faith, Jewish identity, and unity, especially as Torah increasingly integrates with all aspects of life, including the military.
