Thousands of Israelis Abroad Fly Home to Vote in Crucial 2026 Elections Amid Rising Tensions

As Israel prepares for its October 2026 elections, thousands of Israelis living abroad are booking flights to return home solely to cast their ballots. Despite soaring airfare prices and criticism of "remote voting," many feel compelled to participate due to the heightened national security concerns following the events of October 7.

Among them is Moran Padi, who lives in the Netherlands and has experienced personal fear since the recent conflict, describing how her family removed mezuzahs from their doors for safety. Similarly, Tamir Ben-Yosef, who has lived in England for 40 years and never voted before, is now motivated by the deteriorating political and security situation to vote for the first time.

Others, like Lee from Los Angeles and Shiri Dan-Ari from Portugal, emphasize the elections' critical nature, with some stating that the results will determine whether they or their families return to Israel. Community leader Teir Mordoch, who manages a large relocation network of 82,000 women worldwide, has actively encouraged members to come back and vote, highlighting the electoral power of the diaspora.

The Fly&Vote initiative has registered 30,000 eligible voters abroad, assisting them with affordable flights from countries including the US, Netherlands, Switzerland, and the UK. Flight companies report a significant surge in bookings and prices, reflecting this mobilization.
