Man Arrested for Extorting $30,000 and Threatening to Burn Tel Aviv Grocery Store

A 22-year-old man from central Israel was indicted for extorting $30,000 from a grocery store owner in southern Tel Aviv and threatening to burn down the store. According to the indictment, on July 12, the suspect demanded the money from the store owner on Derech Salameh Street and threatened to harm him if he did not comply. When the suspect returned and learned the owner had not obtained the money, he showed an object resembling a knife and warned that he would set the business on fire if the owner contacted the police.

Following the victim's report to the police emergency line, officers from the Sar-T station arrived at the scene, collected evidence, and quickly apprehended the suspect. He was interrogated and detained, with his custody extended multiple times. After the investigation concluded and sufficient evidence was gathered, the Tel Aviv District Prosecution filed charges against him and requested his continued detention until the end of legal proceedings.
