IDF Engineers Secure Strategic Litani River Crossing in South Lebanon Amid Ongoing Clashes

IDF engineering troops from Battalion 603 of Brigade 7, operating under Division 36, are engaged in intense combat and engineering operations along the Litani River in southern Lebanon, approximately 11 kilometers from the border. Despite a ceasefire in the rear, these soldiers have not rested for months, working under constant threat to open and secure routes for advancing forces. The Litani crossing is considered one of the most complex and dangerous operations in the current campaign, following a failed attempt by Division 98 months earlier that resulted in casualties and equipment losses.

The battalion faced a well-prepared Hezbollah defense, including observation posts, explosives, drones, and steep terrain control. Under continuous fire and drone attacks, the engineers successfully measured the river width under live fire and deployed a bridge within hours, enabling tanks and armored vehicles to cross. Since then, they have cleared over 30 kilometers of continuous routes, creating defensive buffers and connecting units.

The soldiers describe the operational environment as highly challenging, with Hezbollah militants embedded within civilian areas, requiring aggressive efforts to push them back and establish real security zones. Daily routines include clearing routes, expanding defenses, deploying anti-drone nets, and conducting raids in surrounding villages to neutralize threats. Intelligence reveals extensive Iranian-backed Hezbollah fortifications, including rock-cut fighting positions, weapons caches, and propaganda imagery.

Despite the physical and mental toll, the troops maintain resilience, with many new recruits understanding the historical significance of their mission. Commanders emphasize that the ceasefire is misleading, as combat operations continue daily. The IDF remains determined to hunt Hezbollah fighters and infrastructure relentlessly, viewing the Litani River line as a critical defensive milestone that Hezbollah did not expect Israel to cross.

Meanwhile, a pilot program involving Lebanese army forces entering three villages near the border is underway, with Israeli forces withdrawing from one.
