Bar Kupershtein Returns to Re'im Parking Lot and Shares Emotional Moment After Hamas Captivity

Bar Kupershtein, a survivor of the Hamas captivity during the October 7 massacre at the Nova Festival, returned to the Re'im parking lot memorial on Wednesday, about nine months after his release. Kupershtein was abducted while assisting in rescuing festival attendees during the attack. In a poignant video shared on his Instagram account, he is seen laying tefillin and reciting the Shema prayer, culminating in an emotional moment where he writes a letter in a Torah scroll.

Kupershtein served as deputy security officer at the Nova Festival and chose to help the wounded under fire rather than flee. His father, Tal, recounted how Bar made multiple trips in a Ranger vehicle to rescue victims, applying tourniquets and warning others of the chaos. During his captivity, his mother Julie initiated the "Tefillin for Every Captive" project, lending his tefillin to thousands across Israel and worldwide. Shortly after his release, Kupershtein organized a mass tefillin laying event in Tel Aviv, explaining that prayer helped him cope, especially hearing his captors pray in Arabic.

Recently, Kupershtein asked the public for assistance as he prepared to move into a new apartment, listing needed items on Instagram. He was overwhelmed by the outpouring of support and expressed deep gratitude for the many offers to help him start anew.

Kupershtein’s return to the site of the attack and his public sharing of prayer and resilience symbolize both personal and communal healing after the traumatic events of October 7.
