Maccabi Tel Aviv Not Superior to Beitar Jerusalem, Analysts Say After Super Cup Win

Following Maccabi Tel Aviv's 3-1 victory over Hapoel Be'er Sheva in the recent Israeli Super Cup, sports analysts debated the team's true strength on the latest episode of "Zion 3." Jonathan Nimrodi, a Maccabi fan, urged caution in reading too much into the win, noting it was a Toto Cup quarterfinal and Be'er Sheva was focused on Champions League preparations. He acknowledged the significant gap in quality during the match but stressed the need for perspective.

Itzik Shasho questioned how representative the lineup was of Maccabi's season-long squad, suggesting many players might change. Nimrodi emphasized the necessity for reinforcements, stating that relying on players like Shagiv Hatzkel, Dor Peretz, and Ido Shahar is a bonus but insufficient for a high-scoring season. Both analysts agreed that the Israeli core is strong but the foreign players' performance will be decisive.

Despite reservations, Nimrodi sensed a positive hunger within the team. However, he warned that without quality signings to break down defensive teams, Maccabi could struggle despite beating Be'er Sheva repeatedly. Shasho added that if the league started immediately, Maccabi would not be better than Beitar Jerusalem, a view Nimrodi concurred with, calling Beitar a "different opera."
