Kings Kangwa continues to be a focal point in Greek sports media following a dispute involving his transfer from Hapoel Be'er Sheva to AEK Athens. On Tuesday, reports emerged that AEK Athens abandoned their plan to purchase the Zambian midfielder due to Hapoel Be'er Sheva's insistence that Kangwa participate in their Champions League qualifier match against Vikingur. This decision effectively blocked Kangwa from playing for the Greek champions in the playoff stage. According to Greek sources, the transfer had been agreed upon with both Hapoel Be'er Sheva and the player, but the club's insistence led AEK to "explore other alternatives." Kangwa started the match and scored a temporary equalizer in the 2-1 loss in Iceland. Greek media noted that Kangwa "did not even smile" after scoring in the 51st minute. Despite the setback, one Greek outlet reported that due to coach Marko Nikolić's high regard for Kangwa and the player's own desire to complete the transfer, the deal might still be finalized.
