Jose Mourinho Returns to Real Madrid for Second Spell
Jose Mourinho is officially back at Real Madrid, 13 years after leaving the club. After Florentino Perez was re-elected president, the Portuguese coach, one of the campaign promises, signed a three-year contract on Monday. Real activated his release clause from Benfica for 15 million euros, and he will be presented on 13 July.
The 63-year-old previously coached Real from 2010 to 2013, winning La Liga in 2011/12 with 100 points and 121 goals, plus the Copa del Rey in 2011 and the Spanish Super Cup in 2012. He returns after spells at Chelsea, Manchester United, Tottenham, Roma, Fenerbahce and Benfica.
Mourinho takes over a side that has gone two seasons without a major trophy and faces pressure to compete for La Liga and the Champions League while managing a star-packed dressing room. He is the third coach to return for a second spell under Perez, after Zinedine Zidane and Carlo Ancelotti.
