President Herzog Warns of Election Integrity Threats and Calls for Unity Ahead of Israeli Vote

On the eve of Tisha B'Av and the upcoming Israeli election campaign, President Isaac Herzog delivered a special address warning against escalating public discourse and urging national unity. He linked the historical significance of Tisha B'Av, the day commemorating the destruction of the Jewish Temples, to the current political climate, emphasizing the dangers of division and hatred within Israeli society.

Herzog highlighted that elections are a cornerstone of democracy and a test of Israel's social cohesion. He called on all citizens to participate responsibly in the elections by listening, respecting differing views, and voting. Importantly, he revealed that about two weeks prior, he received a security briefing from Shin Bet head David Zini and Supreme Court Justice Noam Sohlberg, chair of the Central Elections Committee, regarding threats to the integrity of the election process from both internal and external sources. Herzog stressed the need for law enforcement agencies to act decisively against these threats.
