Connecting Mesh Wi-Fi Units by Cable Boosts Home Internet Speed and Stability
Mesh Wi-Fi systems are designed to improve home internet coverage, but many users still face slow or unstable connections. This issue arises because the mesh units communicate wirelessly with each other while simultaneously serving devices like phones and computers. This wireless communication, known as backhaul, consumes bandwidth and can create a bottleneck.
A straightforward solution is to connect at least one mesh unit directly to the main router using an Ethernet cable. This shifts the communication between units to a wired connection, freeing up the wireless network to focus on serving devices. It is not necessary to wire the entire home; starting with the most critical unit, such as in a home office, living room, or an area with poor signal due to walls, is sufficient.
This wired connection does not diminish the benefits of a mesh system: the network name remains unified, management continues through the app, and devices still seamlessly switch between units. The key improvement is a faster, more stable, and reliable connection.
