Former IDF Brigade Commander Gadi Meiri Joins Yisrael Beiteinu, Supports Avigdor Lieberman for PM

Gadi Meiri, a retired Brigadier General and former commander of Brigade 8 and deputy commander of Brigade 460 in the Israeli Armor Corps, announced his joining of the Yisrael Beiteinu party and his support for party leader Avigdor Lieberman as Prime Minister. Meiri served for decades in the IDF, holding senior command and staff positions, including commanding Battalion 77 in Brigade 7 and leading Brigade 8. He also headed the readiness and preparedness team in the Defense System Inspectorate. After retiring from regular service, Meiri continued serving in the reserves and currently holds a senior role in the Northern Command.

Beyond his military career, Meiri has significant public and managerial experience, having served as a member of the Jordan Valley Regional Council, on the board of the Jewish National Fund (Keren Kayemeth LeIsrael), and as chairman of its finance committee. In his announcement, Meiri emphasized Lieberman’s leadership qualities, calling him the right person to restore security, sovereignty, strengthen the IDF, and unite the public around values of Zionism, service, and national responsibility.

Meiri stated that his joining Yisrael Beiteinu aligns with his lifelong path of leadership through action rather than slogans. He also expressed his intention to strengthen the party’s presence in rural areas, representing the rural community where he lives and has been active through KKL, aiming to expand the party’s grassroots infrastructure nationwide.
