Former IDF Commander Danny Shahar Joins Yisrael Beiteinu, Endorses Avigdor Lieberman

Danny Shahar, a retired IDF Brigadier General and experienced public administrator, announced his joining of the Yisrael Beiteinu party on Monday, publicly supporting its leader Avigdor Lieberman. Shahar emphasized his lifelong commitment to Israel, citing his military and public service experience as foundational to his belief in the need for strong leadership during complex times. He praised Lieberman as a decisive and experienced leader with a clear security vision and the courage to make critical decisions for Israel's future.

Shahar's military career began as a combatant and commander in Shayetet 13, followed by senior command roles including leading the Samson Unit in Gaza, and commanding the Jenin and Nablus brigades. After his military service, he held senior positions in Netanya municipality and the Ministry of Public Security before becoming CEO of the Ministry of Tourism. During his tenure, he managed significant crises including the COVID-19 recovery and the recent Iron Swords war, while simultaneously serving in active reserve duty.

With the outbreak of the current war, Shahar led the government response to evacuate and accommodate residents from northern and southern communities, coordinating complex emergency logistics involving multiple government ministries, local authorities, hotels, and professional bodies to support thousands of displaced families. His decision to join Yisrael Beiteinu reflects his confidence in Lieberman's leadership amid Israel's security challenges.
