New Hesder Yeshiva Opens in Shlomi to Strengthen Northern Israeli Communities

Rabbi Yehoshua Weitzman, head of the Maalot Yeshiva and chairman of the Bnei Akiva Yeshiva Center, announced the establishment of a new Hesder Yeshiva in Shlomi. The initiative aims to reinforce northern Israeli settlements amid ongoing regional challenges and the fact that many residents displaced from northern communities have yet to return home. The new yeshiva will operate as a branch of the Maalot Hesder Yeshiva and is set to open for the upcoming academic year.

Rabbi Weitzman emphasized that alongside security measures, there is a national mission to strengthen communities through settlement, education, and Torah study. Elchanan Gelet, CEO of the Bnei Akiva Yeshiva Center, described the opening as more than just a new religious institution, calling it a Zionist, ethical, and national statement. He highlighted the importance of deepening roots and cultivating a generation of Torah scholars and active contributors to Israel’s growth, especially during times of significant challenges in the north.

The establishment of the Hesder Yeshiva in Shlomi is part of a broader effort to bolster settlement, education, and religious life in the Western Galilee region, reflecting a strategic response to the prolonged security situation and demographic shifts in northern Israel.
