Maggie Tabibi Accuses Democratic Party of Hypocrisy After Blocking Channel 14 Reporter

The controversy over Channel 14's reporter being barred from covering the Democratic Party's primaries in Tel Aviv continues. Abraham Hasson, a journalist for Channel 14, was denied entry to the event because he was not on the approved list, despite prior requests to the party's spokesperson. This occurred even after a district court ruling referencing a 2022 Supreme Court decision that prohibited the Meretz party from banning Channel 14 reporters from their events.

Maggie Tabibi, the main news anchor at Channel 14, sharply criticized the Democratic Party, which is a union of the Labor Party and Meretz, calling their actions "0% democracy, 100% hypocrisy." Her Instagram post drew hundreds of responses, with many echoing her sentiment that the party's name does not reflect its behavior. Nearly 100,000 registered members of the Democratic Party voted in the primaries to determine the party's Knesset list.

At the event, Hasson identified himself but was told he was not on the list and was asked to wait aside, effectively blocking his coverage. Despite attempts to resolve the issue, the party did not allow him entry. Hasson concluded on air that the Democratic Party not only disregards freedom of expression and press freedom but also seems to ignore the spirit of the court ruling.
