Israeli Chief Rabbinate and Fire Authority Issue Urgent Safety Warnings for Bein Hazmanim Vacation Period

Ahead of the Bein Hazmanim vacation period, the Chief Rabbinate of Israel and the National Fire and Rescue Authority jointly issued urgent safety guidelines to prevent life-threatening incidents. Chief Rabbi Kalman Bar and Fire Commissioner Eyal Caspi emphasized the halachic obligation to avoid danger, citing Maimonides' rulings on preserving life. They stressed personal responsibility for safety and protecting others during this high-risk time.

The joint statement outlined three critical directives: a total ban on swimming in unregulated beaches and water sources, strict adherence to safety rules when bathing in the sea, rivers, springs, and pools, and compliance with lifeguards' instructions. It also warned against careless fire use in open areas, mandating complete extinguishing of any fires or barbecues to prevent catastrophic wildfires like the recent blaze in Havot Gilad, which destroyed dozens of homes and businesses and led to the arrest of two suspects.

Additionally, the authorities called on parents to vigilantly safeguard their children, exercise extreme caution on roads, and follow rescue personnel's guidance. Fire Commissioner Caspi highlighted that public safety reflects a deep Jewish mutual responsibility and that while fire services are on heightened alert, ultimate accountability lies with the public. Both institutions urged the public to enjoy the vacation safely, underscoring that preserving life is a supreme value that must never be compromised.
