Israeli Researchers Identify Key Warning Signs of Pancreatic Cancer Amid Common Back Pain Complaints

Researchers in Israel have discovered a drug that inhibits deadly pancreatic cancer, highlighting the importance of early detection. Back pain is a common medical complaint often caused by muscle strain, poor posture, or spinal changes. However, a specific type of back pain, especially when accompanied by other symptoms, can rarely indicate a serious condition such as pancreatic cancer.

Dr. Priyam Bordoloi, an internal medicine specialist at Silchar Medical College Hospital in India, recently warned about six symptoms that patients often overlook for months. Pancreatic cancer is particularly dangerous because it can develop deep within the abdomen without clear early signs. The pancreas is located behind the stomach near the spine and bile duct, making tumors difficult to detect during routine physical exams. Most cases are diagnosed only after the disease has advanced.

Key symptoms to watch for include persistent upper abdominal pain radiating to the back, unexplained weight loss of 5 to 10 kilograms, new-onset diabetes especially in non-overweight older adults, leg pain and swelling potentially caused by deep vein thrombosis, pale and fatty stools indicating poor fat digestion, and painless jaundice due to bile duct obstruction. Each symptom alone may have common causes, but when new, persistent, worsening, or combined, they warrant medical evaluation.

Dr. Bordoloi emphasized that early diagnosis of pancreatic cancer can dramatically improve treatment options. Patients experiencing these warning signs should seek prompt medical advice rather than dismiss symptoms as minor or temporary. The goal is to distinguish when common complaints require urgent investigation to detect this lethal cancer earlier.
