US Completes Military Strikes on Iranian Targets Amid Regional Tensions

The US Central Command announced on Tuesday the completion of a series of military strikes against Iranian military targets. The operations aimed to disable Iran's ability to threaten commercial shipping routes, particularly in the strategic Strait of Hormuz. Targets included command centers, naval capabilities, missile and drone launch sites, and air defense systems. Since early May, US forces have secured the passage of approximately 900 commercial vessels through the strait and remain prepared to continue this mission.

The strikes coincided with a broader escalation in the Middle East, including missile alerts in Kuwait and Bahrain, where Kuwait intercepted missiles and drones entering its airspace. Additionally, a Greek-flagged cargo ship was attacked and set ablaze in the Strait of Hormuz. Iranian cities reported explosions, including the port city of Bandar Abbas, Qeshm Island near the Bushehr nuclear power plant, and Shiraz.

Diplomatic tensions have also risen, with French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian condemning Iran's detention and interrogation of two French embassy staff members, warning of consequences. In Israel, unusual fighter jet activity was reported following the launch of four ballistic missiles from Iran toward Aqaba, Jordan. The Israeli Air Force intercepted the missiles, and the IDF Chief of Staff publicly stated that the military is prepared to resume fighting if Israeli civilian areas are attacked.

Internally, Iranian leadership is debating whether to include Israel in their response strategy. Meanwhile, the US plans to reinforce its regional presence with additional refueling and fighter aircraft, including F-16s and F-35s from European bases. The Pentagon also released the names of two US soldiers killed in Jordan last Friday by an Iranian missile strike.

Despite the military exchanges, diplomatic efforts continue. Iran confirmed that Qatar and Pakistan proposed a temporary ceasefire of 10 to 14 days to resume negotiations and reopen the Strait of Hormuz. Iran’s Interior Minister traveled to Islamabad to discuss the proposal. However, Iran’s Deputy Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council accused the US of violating previous commitments and blocking the release of frozen Iranian assets.
