Israeli Tourist Attacked in Mongolia Amid Antisemitic Assault with Axe

A group of Israeli travelers faced a violent antisemitic attack in Mongolia, days after a similar incident in Montenegro. The assault occurred at a campsite where the Israelis had settled for the night. According to Amit, one of the victims, the group was quietly talking when they suddenly heard shouts of "Heil Hitler." A drunken man then appeared wielding an axe and charged at one of the friends. He was soon joined by six or seven others, some armed with large axes and knives, intent on causing serious harm.

The Israelis fought back physically, with one breaking a glass bottle and another arming himself with a knife for self-defense. The attackers aimed to kill, leaving some victims injured, including Amit who suffered a broken jaw. The group lost phones and passports during the chaos, complicating their situation. They contacted their tour agency, which was reportedly unhelpful and allegedly held antisemitic views, and eventually managed to retrieve some belongings from their driver.

Local assistance was minimal due to language barriers and lack of internet access for translation. After the attack, the group sought medical help, only to find the first hospital abandoned. Amit was later diagnosed with a jaw fracture at another facility. The Israeli embassy in Beijing, responsible for Mongolia, advised them to leave the country immediately. They traveled 14 hours to the airport and took the earliest flight back to Israel.

This incident highlights a disturbing rise in antisemitic violence against Israelis abroad, with the attackers explicitly using Nazi slogans and weapons. The victims expressed shock at the hostility, especially given their previously positive interactions with locals in Mongolia.
