Infiltrator Entered Israeli Territory, About Five Meters From My Farmland
An unusual incident occurred yesterday, Tuesday, when an assailant wearing military-style clothing and armed with a pistol and a knife crossed the border fence from Lebanon into Israeli territory without being detected. A force that was dispatched to the scene because of a report of a fire encountered the assailant and killed him.
Yoni Yaacobi, a farmer and a member of the emergency squad in Moshav Margaliot, who was present during the infiltration, recounted the incident in an interview on the program “HaOlam HaBoker”: “I came home from work, and after 2 or 3 minutes we received an alert from the army about suspicious movement, and they mobilized the emergency squad.”
“We arrived with the army and closed the matter within minutes. This is an incident that could have ended differently and more seriously, there was a lot of luck and a quick response by the forces,” Yaacobi said, adding, “The assailant was about five meters from my farmland.”
“The state’s conduct worries me. Yesterday’s incident is over, but what about the treatment of the border communities? I need to think about how I take care of my land,” he said, adding, “This is my war.” The IDF is investigating why no warning was triggered when he crossed the fence.
