Emily Amrussi Shares Emotional Struggle as Mother of Soldier Fighting in Lebanon

In a heartfelt interview with Hadar Miller, author and journalist Emily Amrussi opened up about the emotional challenges she faces as a mother of a soldier deployed in Lebanon, often enduring long periods without any communication. She described the constant worry for her son's safety and the helplessness stemming from not knowing what he is experiencing on the front lines. Amrussi detailed the accumulating concerns ranging from basic conditions like food and rest to harsh weather, alarms, and the physical and mental strain on the fighters.

She emphasized the difficulty of not being able to ask even the simplest questions during these silent stretches and acknowledged the greater suffering of parents of hostages who endure even more harrowing separations. Amrussi shared a spiritual coping mechanism, explaining how she entrusted her "guardian angel" to watch over her son in Lebanon, saying, "I told my guardian angel, go there, north, protect my son in Lebanon, I will manage." She poignantly added, "I released him. I have no guardian angel now. If my finger gets stuck in a door at the warehouse entrance, I will die in pain and no one will help me, because all my spiritual strength went to my children."
