Maccabi Tel Aviv Misses Chance to Re-Sign Josh Nivo Amid Contract Dispute

Maccabi Tel Aviv came close to re-signing Josh Nivo, one of their most successful centers in recent years, but the deal ultimately fell through due to financial disagreements. In recent weeks, negotiations between Nivo and Maccabi advanced significantly, with both sides expressing willingness to collaborate again. However, Nivo's salary demand of approximately $2.9 million per season clashed with Maccabi's offer of around $2.2 million plus a $900,000 buyout fee from his current club, Milano. Nivo reduced his demand to about $2.7 million, but a roughly $500,000 gap remained.

Meanwhile, Barcelona, having lost out on Moses Wright who withdrew from their agreement, stepped in with a financial offer matching Nivo's demands. This offer convinced Nivo to sign with the Catalan club for the upcoming season. Maccabi's management expressed regret over missing the opportunity, especially as they continue to seek two centers amid a shrinking pool of experienced EuroLeague players this summer.

The club faces challenges in assembling a competitive roster, with several key negotiations failing to materialize into signings. The professional staff must now reconsider their strategy as the transfer window narrows. Despite the setback, Maccabi remains active in the market, determined to strengthen their squad for the new season.
