Kedumim Council Launches Strategic 'Mevo HaShemesh' Road Connecting West Bank to Sharon Region

Ozal Vatik, head of the Kedumim Council, recently conducted a field inspection with the council's security and land departments along the planned route of the strategic east-west road named "Mevo HaShemesh." This new road aims to directly connect the West Bank settlement of Kedumim to the Israeli coastal Sharon region via Sela'it. The inspection focused on finalizing the exact route to advance construction efforts.

The road will be a significant east-west artery, with a portion passing through Area B, which is currently under Palestinian civil control according to the Oslo Accords. Beyond improving transportation, the project carries ideological and security implications. Practically, "Mevo HaShemesh" will facilitate easier and faster travel westward, enabling residents of the Sharon to reach Kedumim for work or visits and allowing West Bank residents quicker access to central Israel.

Following the site visit, Vatik emphasized that the road disregards the Oslo Accords' division of territory, stating, "Someone drew the Oslo agreements in pencil, and we will change and ignore the story of Area B. The logical and correct thing for the residents and the entire region is to connect to Sela'it and the Sharon with a significant east-west road that allows easy and fast travel in both directions and strengthens our security." This marks a clear move to assert Israeli infrastructure development in contested areas to benefit local communities and enhance security.
