Rare ‘Pidyon Peter Chamor’ ceremony held in Ashdod with Gur figures
A rare Pidyon Peter Chamor ceremony was held in Ashdod for members of the “Chavura Shel Simcha” organization, which supports boys in Gur yeshivas who come from divorced homes. The event was attended by HaRav Shlomo Tzvi Alter, son of the Gerrer Rebbe and head of the group, and by the guest of honor, the Kohen Admor of Mevakhei Emunah, who served as the priest in the redemption rite.
According to the organizers, the group brought a donkey and a lamb במיוחד for the occasion so the mitzvah could be carried out as prescribed. After the ceremony, the Admor delivered remarks and later joined a seudat mitzvah with the boys and staff. The choir “Neranena” and singer Dov Friedman led singing and dancing.
In his address, the Admor said, “Every Jew, and especially you dear boys, those who grew up, are pearls in the eyes of the Holy One, blessed be He.” The event followed another gathering earlier the same day in Jerusalem, where the Gerrer Rebbe led a tish and a pidyon haben for Shlomo Tzvi Alter’s grandson, before the boys traveled on to Ashdod.
