Israir Hires 15 Pilots Including 3 Women Ahead of New York Route Launch

Israir has expanded its pilot roster by recruiting 15 new pilots, including three women, following the acquisition of two Airbus A330 wide-body aircraft for its upcoming New York route. This recruitment raises the number of female pilots at Israir to seven, representing 10% of the company's total pilots, significantly higher than the global aviation industry average of 6%. The company received 144 applications for the pilot positions but accepted only 15 candidates.

Israir stated that the expansion of its flight crew and fleet strengthens its operational capabilities, enabling it to increase international activity, add new destinations, and boost flight frequencies in response to growing demand. Hagai Knaan, Israir's Vice President of Operations, emphasized the company's commitment to excellence, diversity, and equal opportunity, highlighting the importance of promoting women to key roles, especially in the cockpit.

Israir is awaiting final approvals to launch its direct flight to New York, expected in August. This new route will place Israir alongside El Al and Arkia as the only Israeli airlines offering direct flights to the United States. In October 2026, American carriers Delta and American Airlines are also set to enter this market.
