Fire in Beit Shemesh Supermarket Injures Eight, Suspected Unlicensed Operation

A fire broke out on Sunday in a supermarket located on the ground floor of an eight-story residential building in the Ramat Avraham neighborhood of Beit Shemesh. Residents were instructed to stay inside their apartments as firefighters, police, and rescue teams responded to the scene. Thick smoke spread throughout the building, prompting fire crews to extinguish the blaze and conduct thorough searches of all floors and elevators to ensure no one was trapped.

Eight people suffered minor smoke inhalation injuries and received medical treatment at the scene. Authorities confirmed no serious injuries or fatalities occurred, attributing the positive outcome to the swift response of the fire department and residents following safety instructions. After controlling the fire, firefighters worked to clear smoke from the building.

Preliminary investigations by Jerusalem district fire investigators suggest the supermarket may have been operating without proper fire safety approval. The fire department warned that running businesses without meeting fire safety standards poses a serious risk to human life. Police managed the scene and urged the public to avoid the area until the operation was completed.
