Israeli Security Officials Warn of Iranian Plans for Ballistic Missile Attacks on Israel

Israeli security sources report that senior Iranian officials have authorized ballistic missile attacks targeting Israel’s home front. Earlier on Sunday, Iran launched four missiles toward Aqaba, Jordan, prompting Israel to fire two Iron Dome interceptors to prevent missile debris from hitting Israeli territory. The incident caused loud explosions in the southern Israeli city of Eilat, near the Jordanian border. Israeli authorities conducted searches but reported no casualties or damage, and Home Front Command guidelines remain unchanged.

The Israeli defense establishment views the missile launches as a signal from Iran, but stresses that Israel’s current security posture is much stricter than in 2023, prepared for extreme scenarios including broad strikes on Iranian infrastructure. Concurrently, explosions were reported in Iranian cities Abadan, Ahvaz, and Bandar Abbas, as well as in Kuwait.

In response to the attacks, Eilat’s mayor Eli Lankri held a security assessment with local emergency and military commanders. The U.S. Embassy in Jordan advised its citizens to avoid travel to Aqaba’s airport and seaport due to a credible threat, though Jordanian officials later denied any confirmed danger. Meanwhile, Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam condemned the Iranian strikes, calling them blatant violations of Kuwaiti and Jordanian sovereignty and a direct threat to Arab regional security.

U.S. sources revealed to The New York Times that the Iranian attack, which killed two American soldiers and left one missing, was the fourth assault on U.S. forces in Jordan within five days. Jordan has become a critical hub for U.S. military deployments following the relocation of troops from Bahrain, the UAE, and Qatar, as regional allies have restricted American military presence on their soil amid escalating tensions.
