Havat Gilad Resident Vows to Rebuild Stronger After Devastating Fire Destroys Historic Home

A major fire completely destroyed the first house in the West Bank settlement of Havat Gilad, which also served as the community's original synagogue. The home, inhabited by Yehuda Shimon and his family since 2006, was lost along with decades of family memories, rare holy books collected over 25 years, and all office backups. Despite the heavy loss, Shimon expressed resilience and gratitude for the widespread support from families and communities throughout the Samaria region.

Shimon recounted how his family escaped the fire and found temporary shelter in the nearby settlement of Bracha. He emphasized the strong mutual responsibility and solidarity among the large communities in the area. Reflecting on the settlement's long struggle to grow and develop, Shimon viewed the fire as another challenge in the broader effort of building the land.

He was thankful that no one was physically harmed, noting moments when danger was close but ultimately averted. Looking ahead, Shimon is determined to rebuild bigger and better homes in the coming days. He acknowledged that other houses and businesses in Havat Gilad were also damaged but downplayed the material loss, stating that aside from the holy books, "it's just a house, all nonsense."
