US Faces Challenges in Destroying Iran’s Strategic Nuclear Site at Mount Khoosheh
Amid ongoing security developments, global media analysis highlights the difficulties the United States faces in targeting Iran’s strategic nuclear facility at Mount Khoosheh, also known as Kooh-e-Kolang Gaz La. Last week, President Donald Trump threatened a significant strike on this site, which has never been attacked in previous operations like "Lion’s Roar." According to reports from TWZ, the facility is exceptionally fortified, featuring two separate tunnel networks built in 2007 and 2020, located southwest of the known Natanz nuclear site, which was targeted by the US in the "Midnight Hammer" operation in June last year.
The Iranian regime has openly discussed plans to develop centrifuge infrastructure within Mount Khoosheh, whose large area could support extensive nuclear activity. Satellite images from June 21 show ongoing activity with trucks and equipment entering and exiting the tunnels. Despite the US dropping 12 of the world’s most powerful bunker-buster bombs on Fordow and Natanz, it remains uncertain whether Mount Khoosheh’s ventilation shafts are accessible to conventional bombs or if a nuclear option would be considered. Consequently, the US might be limited to attacking only the facility’s entry and exit points.
Other notable international developments include Turkey and Egypt signing a $350 million defense cooperation agreement to make Egypt a production hub for Turkish weaponry, including short-range air defense systems and artillery ammunition. This deal intensifies concerns in Israel about losing air superiority, especially as Turkey may supply Egypt with advanced fifth-generation fighter jets.
In US politics, Michigan Congresswoman Haley Stevens emerges as a key pro-Israel figure within the increasingly progressive Democratic Party. Stevens supports continued unconditional US aid to Israel and rejects claims of genocide in Gaza, contrasting sharply with her progressive primary opponent Abdul El-Sayed, who is critical of US Middle East policies and Israel.
These reports reflect the complex geopolitical and military challenges surrounding Iran’s nuclear ambitions, regional arms dynamics, and shifting US political stances on Israel.
