Armed Intruder Breaks Into Linoy Bar Geffen’s Tel Aviv Building and Fires Gun
Journalist and TV presenter Linoy Bar Geffen experienced a disturbing incident early Friday morning when an armed man broke into the lobby of her residential building in the L neighborhood of northern Tel Aviv at 4:55 a.m. The intruder smashed mirrors inside the lobby and fled the scene. The entire event was captured on the building’s security cameras, prompting police to open an investigation.
Bar Geffen recounted in her first interview with Walla that she did not hear any gunshots herself. It was only after a neighbor posted the security footage to the building’s WhatsApp group around 6 a.m. that she realized what had happened. She went down to the lobby and found shattered mirrors and glass shards scattered everywhere. The footage shows the suspect arriving at the entrance, attempting to open the door, then forcefully pushing it open after failing to enter the access code. He then walked around the lobby, breaking mirrors with his hand or an object, and brandished what appeared to be a handgun, pointing it at the mirrors. The man appeared organized but restless.
Despite some residents believing they heard gunfire, police reported no evidence of shots fired at the scene. Authorities also stated there is currently no indication linking the incident to the ongoing feud between the Musli and Jarushi crime families. The investigation is focused on property damage.
Bar Geffen noted that although such violence is rare in residential buildings, the criminal conflicts are increasingly encroaching on local neighborhoods. She referenced recent violent events nearby, including a recent attempted murder of a young man on a scooter about 200 meters from her home. After the incident, she contacted Tel Aviv City Council member Sigal Weitzman and filed an online police complaint, providing the security footage. Police responded quickly, initially suspecting the attack targeted Bar Geffen personally, but later realizing she was not the intended target. Investigators are now relying heavily on the video evidence to identify the suspect and understand his motives for breaking into the building and causing damage before fleeing.
