Iran Conflict Could Encourage China to Invade Taiwan, Analyst Warns
Iran expert Nati Toubian warned in a Channel 14 interview that the United States' current approach to Iran aims to bring Tehran back to negotiations rather than decisively defeat it. He cautioned that perceived American weakness in handling Iran might embolden China to take military action against Taiwan. Toubian noted that while the US has reinstated a naval blockade to pressure Iran economically, it stops short of a conclusive strategy, stating, "I still do not see a US move that breaks the stalemate." He criticized former President Donald Trump for ignoring the severity of Iran's internal unrest, where millions have protested and tens of thousands have been killed, emphasizing that the Iranian people need external support.
Toubian highlighted the complex regional dynamics, including Gulf states like Qatar, which simultaneously support Iran and act as mediators, complicating the situation. He also cited Iranian parliament members warning citizens to prepare for worsening conditions amid ongoing hardships and food shortages. The analyst concluded by stressing that American reluctance to take decisive action against Iran could be interpreted as weakness not only in the Middle East but globally, potentially triggering Chinese aggression toward Taiwan in the future.
