Ultra-Orthodox Protest Prompts Closure of Highway 4 in Both Directions in Central Israel
Extreme ultra-Orthodox protesters plan to demonstrate Thursday afternoon following the Israeli Supreme Court's ruling yesterday, which issued a temporary injunction halting the enforcement of a law freezing the detention of draft evaders. In response, police announced that Highway 4 will be closed to traffic in both directions from approximately 4:00 PM between the Aluf Sadeh Interchange and the Em HaMoshavot Interchange. Traffic congestion and roadblocks are also expected on Jabotinsky Road within the city.
The police advised drivers to avoid these areas and to use alternative routes while staying updated on traffic reports. Authorities emphasized their recognition of the right to protest as a fundamental democratic principle and stated they will allow demonstrations as long as they remain lawful. However, they warned that any disorderly conduct, obstruction of free movement, or behavior endangering public safety will not be tolerated.
